PHNOM PENH, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's insurance industry registered a gross premium of 208.3 million U.S. dollars in the first half of 2025, up 17.2 percent from 177.7 million dollars over the same period last year, an Insurance Regulator of Cambodia (IRC) report showed on Monday.
The total amount of claims incurred was 48.6 million dollars during the January-June period this year, up 23.6 percent from 39.3 million dollars over the same period last year.
The Southeast Asian nation's insurance sector currently has more than 1 billion dollars in total assets.
IRC's Director General, Bou Chanphirou, said the kingdom's insurance penetration was 1.17 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024, as the insurance density was 22 dollars per person. It shows that Cambodia's insurance market has potential for further growth. ■
